Join us on a magical 8-day photography tour to one of the most remote places in Greenland aboard a tall-ship with award-wining Arctic photographer, Florian Ledoux.
During this photo tour, you'll step aboard the largest wooden schooner in Europe, the SV Linden – your mission: to photograph and explore the largest fjord system in the world, the mythical Scoresby Sound. Few people have visited this beautiful and remote location, so you'll be in for the trip of a lifetime when you do so with 11 other like-minded photographers.
For 8 days, we will explore Scoresby Sound, as we search for photography opportunities at every stage. If the ice conditions allow, then our plan is to circumnavigate Milne Island – one of the most scenic places in Greenland with its steep cliffs dwarfing the few people that venture there. The area is home to an abundance of wildlife, so we will keep our eyes open for musk oxen, Arctic foxes, narwhal and, if we are fortunate, polar bears. The area is full of Arctic scenery and is truly a photographers dream.
Highlights of this tour include:
- Photographing the most wild and stunning landscapes in East Greenland.
- Numerous opportunities to photograph cathedral-sized icebergs.
- Learning new photography skills with a highly experienced Arctic photographer.
- Experiencing the local Greenlandic way of life on a visit to the remote settlement of Ittoqqortoormiit.
- Photographing wildlife including musk oxen, Arctic foxes, Arctic hares (polar bears and narwhals are rare in this area but may also be sighted).
- Photographing and exploring the coastline by Zodiac landing craft.
- Travel on a photogenic and comfortable tall-ship with a sauna onboard.
Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to explore Greenland by ship! Check availability by choosing a date.
You will fly directly from Iceland to the remote airstrip at Constable Point, located inside of Scoresby Sund. Flights are not included in our price but we will help you to arrange your booking. We are currently awaiting final confirmation in relation to times and prices from the airline. Please contact us for updates.
We will meet you at the airstrip and arrange transfer to the tall-ship Linden, which will be awaiting us at the port. Once onboard, the Captain will conduct a thorough safety briefing. This is when your journey to Greenland will begin!
We will spend the week exploring Scoresby Sund with the aim of circumnavigating Milne Island. The focus of this expedition is to seek the best photography opportunities at every stage, which will include numerous iceberg, landscape and wildlife shots from the ship and the shore.
As we explore the coast, we will make good use of the Zodiac landing craft to obtain great photo opportunities close to the ice and explore the shore. We will attempt to make shore landings on a daily basis by Zodiac landing craft so that you can spend time enjoying the nature from the shore.
Short hikes in the wilderness are all part of the adventure. At all times, you will be accompanied by a professional guide trained and armed for polar bear protection. We will explore the different branches of the fjord with a plan to visit the majestic Eielson Glacier, with opportunities to take photographs of the calving glacier face.
We will then sail along the stunning Øfjord, with granite sides reaching heights of 2000 metres. This fjord is one of the many natural wonders of the region. On our return, we plan to visit the remote settlement of Ittoqqortoormiit, where there will be time to explore ashore and photograph the local life.
Our expert photographer, Florian, will assist you with your photography and conduct masterclass lectures on a daily basis to help you make the most out of your photography.
The adventure ends back at Constable Point, where you will board your flight back to Reykjavik after having made new friends and some unforgettable memories.
We recommend arriving Reykjavik at least one day prior to your departure in case your flight suffers any delay or cancellation. Due to the remote areas we are visiting flights can be subject to delay and it is compulsory you obtain travel insurance that covers cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event the expedition is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, we will issue you a full refund for the trip but we are not liable for any additional costs incurred such as flights or hotels. We recommend you book your return flight to your home destination at least one day after, as flights to and from Greenland can suffer disruption due to the weather. Iceland is a fantastic place to visit and there are many activities on offer if you plan a longer stay. We will assist you with your booking from Reykjavik to Constable Point with the airline. We are still awaiting the final schedule and pricing for 2020 and will forward this to you. Please ensure you check the departure airport prior to travel, as Greenland flights usually operate from the domestic airport (RKV) in Reykjavik and not Keflavik International (KEF) where most international flights land.
One of the most exciting things is that no journey to Greenland is ever the same. There is no set itinerary and a flexible approach to exploring, making a journey here a real Arctic adventure. Your photographer and captain will work tirelessly with the conditions to ensure you see the most Scoresby Sund has to offer. When travelling in remote regions the ship’s captain will make decisions based on the sea, the ice and the weather conditions. This itinerary is an outline of what you’ll experience on this voyage and is not set in stone.
Linden is a tall-ship, built-in 1993 as a replica of the original Linden of 1920. At 50m in length, she is the biggest wooden schooner in Europe. The good news for photographers is that there is ample deck space to shoot from. Onboard she has spacious accommodation, a sauna to warm up in after a busy day of shooting, a large saloon with bar and library.
Accommodation in twin shared cabins with private shower and w/c (mostly en-suite).
