Frequently asked questions
When should I go to Greenland?
Summer is the best time for photography in Greenland, when the light of the Midnight Sun casts an enchanting glow over the icebergs in the ice fjords. With so much daylight throughout the night, you'll spend entire evenings chasing beautiful compositions.
Can I see the Northern Lights in Greenland?
You'll be able to see the Northern Lights during our autumn photography workshop in South Greenland, when the days are shorter and the nights are dark enough for the stars to shine through. It's also a great time to go hiking for wonderful things to photograph onshore, such as mountains, wildlife and flowers.
How long is the flight time to Greenland?
It will take you approximately 4.5 hours to fly from Copenhagen in Denmark to Kangerlussuaq in Greenland. Once you have landed in Kangerlussuaq, you will be able to take a flight towards your final destination. It takes approximately an hour to fly from Kangerlussuaq to Ilulissat. If you will be departing from Reykjavik in Iceland, then the flight time to Ilulissat will be approximately 3 hours.
What kind of clothing should I bring on my trip?
We suggest that you pack layers and wear warm, waterproof and wind resistant clothing. The weather is similar to Iceland, so for our Greenland photo tours, we suggest that you refer to our detailed packing list here.
Do I need to bring cash or can I use credit card in Greenland?
Most places in Greenland accept credit card. You can also withdraw cash from ATMs if needed.
Which currency is used in Greenland?
The Danish kroner is the currency of Greenland. We do not recommend that you bring Euro or US dollars as this currency will not be accepted. You do not necessarily have to bring cash as most places will allow you to use a credit card.
When should I travel if I want to see the Midnight Sun in Greenland?
Our summer photo workshops in Greenland are best suited to seeing the Midnight Sun. This includes Greenland Midnight Sun Photo Workshop | Sailing on Schooner, Greenland Photo Tour | Glaciers & Fjords of Scoresby Sound and Midnight Sun in Greenland | Summer Photo Workshop.
What are the accommodation standards in Greenland?
During our tours, we stay in the best hotels in Greenland, which are generally rated as 4 or 5 stars. During our schooner workshops, we will stay aboard the ship in basic but comfortable accommodation.
Is there Wifi in Greenland?
You will have access to wifi during hotel stays and when we are sailing on our schooners.
Is it easy to travel in Greenland on your own?
There are no roads connecting the villages in Greenland. The only way to get around is by hiking or taking a boat. We recommend taking a tour as you will be able to see much more with our expert photography guides. They will also help you to develop your photography skills and share their knowledge with you about the culture and surroundings, to give you a well-rounded experience in Greenland.
