Day 1
Uzbekistan Photo Tour: Capturing the Timeless Wonders of the Old Silk Road - day 1

Day 1 -

Our tour begins in the capital city of Uzbekistan. We will meet at the hotel in the afternoon and have a brief introduction meeting and photography masterclass, covering all the techniques we will use over the next 10 days. We will take a walk around Uzbekistan’s largest local market, Chorus Bazar, and enjoy some candid street photography, before enjoying a traditional Uzbek dinner.

Day 2
Uzbekistan Photo Tour: Capturing the Timeless Wonders of the Old Silk Road - day 2

Day 2 -

We will be out early to enjoy the sunrise at Hazrati Iman Complex, a beautiful mosque and madrasa close to the city of Tashkent. Following breakfast, our transport will take us to the artisanal home of Fergana Valley, where many traditional products are still being made by hand. Our first stop will be at local ceramic factories to photograph the men and women who create plates, vases and statues sold all over the world. We will enjoy private photography sessions with the local ceramic masters.

Day 3

Day 3 -

After an early breakfast, we will explore Dehqon Bazar in Margillon, a busy and friendly market full of fresh produce and personalities. Margillon is famous for silk manufacturing and we will visit 2 traditional silk factories to photograph the process of creating hand-made fabrics. We will have dedicated photography sessions with the artisans. After lunch we will return to Tashkent and visit the underground Metro stations with their unique Soviet inspired architecture.

Day 4 -

We will have a morning flight to the historical city of Khiva. We will explore the old city of Itchan Kala - a small but busy city that has retained its centuries-old mosques and madrasas. We will visit Malta Minor Minaret, Pahlavan Mahmoud Mausoleum and Kuhna Ark Fortress. We will photograph the sunset from the top of Kuhna Ark, overlooking Itchan Kala.

Day 5

Day 5 -

The morning will be spent around Itchan Kala visiting Duma Mosque, silk workshops, Tash Kholvi Palace and wood working shops. We will be joined by a local Uzbek model in traditional dress to create some unique and beautiful images. After lunch we will be transported along the Old Silk Road to Bukhara. After checking in, we visit Thor Minor Madrasa, Lyabi Haus and Nadir Divan Begi.

Day 6

Day 6 -

We will again be up early to enjoy exclusive access to Kalyan Mosque at sunrise. We will then be again joined by a local model in dress traditional to the area for photographs around Poi Kalyan, Mir-i-Arab Madrasa and Ulegbek Mosque. Following lunch we will visit Ark of Bukhara and Bolo Haus Mosque before an afternoon walk through the market of Bukhara for some street photography. We will enjoy the sunset from a beautiful terrace overlooking the Old City of Bukhara.

Day 7

Day 7 -

After sunrise, we have a private drone session for those interested in some aerial photography that is normally not permitted without the specially arranged permits. Following breakfast we will drive to Aydar Lake and check in to a traditional yurt camp to spend the night in the desert. We will have private photography sessions with local people and then an evening of astro photography with a beautiful composition.

Day 8

Day 8 -

A relative sleep-in in the yurts, followed by breakfast and a drive to Samarkand. Here we will check in to our hotel before exploring some of the highlights of this beautiful city - Gur-i-Amir Mausoleum, Bibi Kanhum Mosque and Siyob Bazar. For sunset we will have our first visit to the incredible Registan Square.

Day 9

Day 9 -

We have arranged private access to photograph at Registan Square at sunrise with a model in traditional dress. We will also have drones available for aerial photography, which is normally not possible at this location. Following breakfast we will visit a local paper factory to photograph the traditional process of manufacturing paper and creating everything from envelopes to dresses. In the afternoon we have a post processing masterclass and a final dinner as a group.

For our last morning, we have arranged special access to the ancient necropolis of Shah-i-Zinda to photograph its incredible architecture. Following breakfast we will transfer back to Tashkent to complete our journey.
