Description

We take off from Reykjavik Airport and head on over the Reykjanes Peninsula to explore the Fagradalsfjall eruption area, the most recent eruption in Iceland and the first one on the Reykjanes Peninsula in about 800 years. Soaring over the massive crater and exploring the hot lava fields is a unique experience and our pilot will ensure everyone gets a great view of the area.

We then head on over to Hengill geothermal area, flying over mountains, valleys, and old lava fields.

The Hengill geothermal area covers an area of about 100 km2 and is one of the largest high-temperature geothermal zones in Iceland and is connected to three volcanic systems. The last eruption in the area was over 2000 years ago but the steaming fumaroles and many hot springs in the area show that there is still lava close to the surface The area is an important source of energy for the south of Iceland with two power stations harnessing the energy at Hengill, Nesjavallavirkjun, and Hellisheiðisvirkjun power plants.

The Hengill area consists of old lava fields, steaming hot springs and fumaroles, colorful mountains, geothermal power plants, and craters and we will be making a landing at a remote location to explore the raw and untamed area away from crowds. Here you will get to see boiling hot springs and enjoy the beautiful colors caused by the gases rising from the earth and take some amazing pictures to show your friends at home.

After enjoying the area we hop onboard the helicopter again and take a scenic route back to Reykjavik and enjoy the colorful houses of Reykjavik and some iconic sites of Reykjavik like the Hallgrímskirkja Church and Harpa Concert Hall on our way in for a landing at Reykjavik airport.
