Description

Get ready to take a walk on the wild side in Iceland with this photography day tour to Landmannalaugar. This is a great opportunity for those who would like to experience the Highlands on Iceland, free from driving while honing their photography skills.

Situated within the Fjallabak Nature Reserve, in the remote southern Highlands, this extraordinary geothermal destination brims with mystery, set amidst colourful rhyolite mountain peaks, bubbling hot springs and vast, barren lava fields. Make the most of the long summer days and explore this ruggedly enchanting landscape as you take your photography skills to a whole new level!

Over the course of the day, you’ll travel by super jeep across spectacular mountain and gravel roads, as you witness the environment changing steadily before your eyes. The Highlands have a lunar-like feel about them, characterised by black sandy plains that spread as far as the eye can reach, with legendary views of the Hekla volcano which was once described as the “Gateway to Hell”.

Your first stop will be at the uniquely-shaped Hjálparfoss, a waterfall divided into two cascades that join at the base. Surrounded by rugged lava formations and gorgeous wildflowers, it yields a number of wonderful compositions.

As you head further into the barren plains, you’ll come across two incredible volcanic crater lakes nested in flaming red calderas; Bláhylur, with its sparkling blue water glistening in the sun and its little sister, Ljótipollur, jokingly known by Icelanders as the “ugly pond”. Far from unattractive, the two lakes make for a wonderful panoramic scene.

From there, you’ll travel along the edge of the massive volcanic lake Frostastaðavatn, where you’ll catch your first glimpse of the breathtaking nature to be found at our main destination, Landmannalaugar. We’ll make a splash as we take our super jeep through the river crossing, before disembarking to begin an easy hike to the peak of the glorious mountain Bláhnúkur. Though steep in some places, you’ll be rewarded with the chance to capture beautiful panoramic views over the Highlands and the Landmannalaugar Valley.

As the golden light of the Midnight Sun takes hold, we’ll begin making our way back to Reykjavík. Make sure to leave some space on your memory cards as we near our final shooting destination, the magical Valley of Tears. This fascinating canyon is characterised by a number of small waterfalls that tumble from the sheer cliffs, into an electric blue pool below. It makes for a spectacular sight, with sunset hues blazing across the sky.

If you have a strong sense for adventure, then this Landmannalaugar Photography Day Tour by super jeep is for you! Don’t miss out on your chance to get closer to nature. Check availability now by choosing a date.
