Day 1
7 Day Finnish Lapland Photo Tour - day 1

Day 1 - Days 1-7: Lapland Adventure in Finland

On day one, you'll arrive to Rovaniemi airport no later than 12:00pm, where you'll be met by your photo guides. From there, you'll be transported into the heart of the forest, where you will check in to the Oivangin Lomakartano lodge. This will be your base for the entire duration of the tour. Our group will share 4-5 large cabins, all of which feature 3-9 bedrooms. Each room has its own private bathroom. There is even a private sauna in each cabin, so you can relax and unwind after a long day out in the cold. While some may prefer to cook, others may instead choose to use the restaurant on-site for a variety of delicious meals throughout the stay. To top it all off, there is a spa at the lodge where you can access an outdoor jacuzzi – perfect for sitting in beneath the stars, surrounded by pristine white snow. The opportunities for photography in Finnish Lapland are endless. To make the most of the conditions, there will be no fixed itinerary on this tour. Rather, your guides will continually monitor the weather forecast, taking you to all of the best locations to take advantage of the beautiful Arctic light. At night, they'll keep an eye on the aurora activity. If the Northern Lights come out to play, then you can rest assured that you'll be out there, chasing them across the snowy landscape. Highlights of this workshop include but are not limited to: - Riisitunturi National Park, where snow-covered trees make for a truly enchanting scene. We'll return several times during the workshop to capture it in a variety of conditions. It's a wonderful place for night photography, beneath a blanket of stars in the sky and of course, the green glow of the Northern Lights! - Kitka river and the famous Myllykoski viewpoint within Oulanka National Park. This river never freezes during winter. It stands out serenely from within the frosty surrounds, with smooth rapids carrying small chunks of ice that make glorious patterns when shot in long exposure. - Snowmobile ride to Kuntivaara by the Russian border. This hill is similar to Riisitunturi, though the trees here are smaller. We'll spend the day exploring amongst the snow-covered trees, before settling in for a delicious hot meal and a bonfire in a cabin at the peak. - A day in a Golden Eagle bird hide. You'll have the opportunity to relax in comfort as you capture the wide variety of birdlife to be found in the wilderness of Finnish Lapland. Be prepared to spot eagles, woodpeckers, jays, tits and much more!
