Experience the wild and mountainous landscape of Senja island on this 7-day summer photography workshop in Norway!

Situated far above the Arctic Circle, this beautiful island is a paradise for landscape photographers, where jaw-dropping scenery shines beneath the glory of the Midnight Sun during the summer season. The long days make it the perfect place for hiking and with so much to see, there is no other way to unearth the treasures of Senja than when exploring by foot.

Be prepared to traverse magical mountain ridges, separated by the deep, turquoise water of the fjords. At every turn, you'll be met by the sprawling coastline and dramatic, rugged views like something out of a fairytale. You'll spend your days capturing the pristine beaches, spectacular mountains and jawdropping cliffs falling straight into the ocean below.

During this adventure, we'll be camping in the most incredible locations discovered by world-renowned photographers, Daniel Kordan and Max Rive. On our final day, we'll be offering a post-processing masterclass, where you'll learn everything you need to know about location scouting, composition and the secrets of producing photographs just like Daniel and Max.

The weather conditions on Senja island are dynamic, so you can bet that we'll be facing wind, rain, storms and sunshine, all of which can be a recipe for mindblowing light. As such, the itinerary will be flexible, to ensure that you'll be able to make the most of what nature has in store for you.

Day 1
7-Day Senja Summer Hiking Photo Tour - day 1

Day 1 - Arrival

You'll be met by your guides at Evenes Airport around 1pm. From there, you'll make your way as a group by minivan to your first destination. The drive will take approximately 1.5 hours, though we'll make stops along the way for coffee and food. Once we arrive, there will be an easy hiking trail that will lead towards our first campsite where we'll pitch our tents. After everyone has finished setting up, we'll decide upon our shooting location for sunset. There are two viewpoints, both of which offer staggering views of the fjords below. Whatever we choose to photograph tonight, we'll save the other for sunrise in the morning.

Day 2
7-Day Senja Summer Hiking Photo Tour - day 2

Day 2 -

We'll spend the morning capturing the sunrise over the fjords from our spectacular viewpoint close to camp. Afterwards, we'll return to our tents for breakfast, before packing up and hiking back down. We'll then drive to a nearby cafe, where we'll spend some of the morning looking over our images and participating in our first post-processing session as a group. You'll have plenty of time to ask any questions that you may have and to receive helpful critique that will no doubt help you to improve your photography skills. Thereafter, we'll make a brief stop at the local supermarket to pick up some supplies, before commencing a 45 minute hike to our next camping destination – an amazing location right near a mountain ridge with panoramic views over Segla. This will be our subject for the next sunset and sunrise, which we'll aim to capture from different angles beneath the glorious golden light.

Day 3
7-Day Senja Summer Hiking Photo Tour - day 3

Day 3 -

We'll wake early on day three and begin the hike back to the village, where we'll convene at a cafe for coffee and another post-processing session. After that, we'll drive along the coastline, following the fjords until we come to the edge of a rainforest. From there, we'll hike through the vegetation until we reach a wonderful viewpoint, where we'll be treated to breathtaking scenery of the fjords and mountains in the surrounds.

Day 4 -

On days four and five, we'll pitch our tents at the best viewpoint on Senja island, to ensure that we'll be well-located for the golden light of the Midnight Sun. The hike to this position will take us approximately 45 minutes.

Day 5
7-Day Senja Summer Hiking Photo Tour - day 5

Day 5 -

The hike to the summit of the mountain will take us another 40 minutes. While steep, the astounding views will make it all the more worthwhile once we get to the top. It will seem as though you have the world beneath your feet, with mountains and fjords reaching far out into the ocean below.

Day 6
7-Day Senja Summer Hiking Photo Tour - day 6

Day 6 -

On day six, we'll pack our belongings and hike back down the mountain to our vehicles. Along the way, we'll make numerous stops for photography, capturing the sharp mountain ridges that rise up all around us. Once we are back in our vans, we'll continue our journey around the area, exploring the lush green woodlands, calm waters of the fjords and quaint fishing villages. In the evening, we'll check in to the delightful comfort of a wonderful hotel for some well-earned rest and a shower! There will be some time to freshen up before we meet together as a group for our final dinner and a post-processing masterclass.

Day 7
7-Day Senja Summer Hiking Photo Tour - day 7

Day 7 - Departure

This will be your final day on Senja island. While bittersweet, you'll no doubt be excited to return home and go over all of the photos that you've taken during this once-in-a-lifetime camping adventure in Senja. After breakfast, you'll pack your belongings and check out of the hotel. Your guides will then drop you back off at Evenes airport at around 1pm for your flight home or onwards to your next destination.

Fitness

You'll be required to have a medium to high level of fitness for this hiking photography workshop. Below, you'll be able to see the distances and elevation for each day. While most of the hiking paths are well-maintained, keep in mind that you will have to carry your own backpack with camera, hiking gear and food for the duration of the tour.
