Uncover the enchanting beauty of the Lofoten Islands on this 3 day winter photography tour! This archipelago of Norwegian islands is home to a number of fairytale locations for photography. You'll experience the very best of sights on this whirlwind adventure as you travel across Moskenesøya, Flakstadøya and Vestvågøya islands in search of extraordinary compositions.

Winter is a magical time in the Lofoten Islands, when the landscapes are covered in a pristine layer of white snow and the ethereal Arctic light creates wonderfully charming scenes. During this tour, you'll capture quaint fishing villages on a backdrop of majestic mountain peaks, stunning beaches, icy fjords and of course, the stunning dance of the Northern Lights. While they make a display in Lofoten from around September to April each year, chasing them involves a lot of patience and luck. Our photo guides will keep an eye on the conditions, monitoring the aurora activity to ensure that you'll be in the right place at the right time to capture the Northern Lights in every location that you visit.

Daily itinerary

Day 1

Day 1 - Arctic Beaches

On day one, your photography guide will pick you up early in the morning from your accommodation for a sunrise session at Skagsanden Beach. This is one of the most famous beaches in Norway, with its golden sand and brilliant blue water offset by a spectacular mountainous backdrop. There are many patterns in the sand here which make for delightful leading lines. After that, you'll head to the spectacular Utakleiv beach, where large boulders and rockpools glistening like jewels will captivate your imagination as you explore the coastline. Nearby is its sister beach, Haukland, which was once voted the best beach in Norway. Surrounded on all sides by mountains, it is sheltered from the weather and offers a number of beautiful compositions for photography. All of these beaches are perfectly located for witnessing the Northern Lights, so you'll have a number of incredible locations to choose from should the Aurora dance across the skies tonight.

Day 2

Day 2 - Reine

On day two, you'll rise early and make your way from Leknes to the small harbour of Hamnøy. You'll capture the sun as it rises over the traditional red rorbu wooden cabins, set against the backdrop of a magnificent, snowcapped mountain and surrounded by fjord. There is a lot to explore in the area, from the extraordinary views over Nusfjord fishing village to the gorgeous little hamlet of Flakstad. We'll spend the day unearthing all of the treasures in our surrounds, before heading towards the fishing village of Reine for sunset. Here, we'll capture the village in all its charm, with reflections upon the water and mountains all around. There will be the chance to photograph during the blue hour at another nearby village, before we have dinner at a nearby restaurant. In the evening, we'll continue our chase for the Northern Lights, before making our way back to Leknes for the night.

Day 3

Day 3 - Arctic Beaches

This will be the final day of our adventure. In the morning, we'll have breakfast before heading out for a sunrise session at Unstad beach, where dramatic swells can whip up exciting conditions for photography. This is one of the most scenic beaches in the Lofoten Islands and is famous for its surf. The rolling waves make for incredible scenes, particularly if you happen to catch a surfer in the midst. Later in the afternoon, you'll have time to explore the charming beach of Vareid, as the golden hours take hold, bathing the wintery scenes in ethereal light. After the sun has set, your photo guide will drop you back off at your accommodation in Leknes, no doubt with memory cards full from a magical 3 day photography adventure in the Lofoten Islands.
