Description

Experience the magic of the Faroe Islands on a 3-day summer photography tour! This magnificent archipelago of volcanic islands situated between Iceland and Norway in the North Atlantic Ocean is like something straight out of a fairytale. Steep cliffs line breathtaking shorelines and rugged scenery gives way to quaint, colourful villages. There are an abundance of opportunities to practice landscape and wildlife photography with dynamic weather conditions adding to the already dramatic atmosphere.

Over the course of 3 days, your local photography guide will take you to the best locations for photography on three islands within the archipelago, all exceedingly beautiful in their own right.

On Vágar island, there will be the chance to capture the famous Múlafossur Waterfall, cascading from a cliff straight into the ocean below. You'll also visit the extraordinary Sørvágsvatn, a lake that sits above the ocean atop the dizzying heights of a vertical cliff face.

Nearby on Streymoy Island, you'll visit the remote hillside village of Saksun, surrounded by fjords and waterfalls. Perhaps the highlight is the Fossá waterfall – the tallest waterfall in the Faroe Islands that is easily accessible, giving you the chance to get up close and personal for photography, though you may get a little bit wet!

The final island that we will visit on this photo tour is Eysturoy, where you'll have opportunities to explore the charming village of Gjógv and hike to the Hvíthamar mountain ridge for a panoramic vista of the picturesque Funningsfjørður fjord below.

What are you waiting for? Explore the fairytale Faroe Islands on a 3 day summer photography workshop! Check availability by choosing a date.

Day 1
3 Day Summer Faroe Islands Photo Tour - day 1

Day 1 - Vágar Island

The adventure begins! In the morning, your photography guide will pick you up from your accommodation. You'll then head out to photograph Sørvágsvatn, a spectacular wonder of nature. This enormous lake sits atop a cliff and as a result of an optical illusion, the steep cliff faces appear to be much higher than they actually are. The resulting images are as dramatic as they are vertigo-inducing! In the evening, you'll make your way to the charming village of Gásadalur for a sunset session at the iconic Múlafossur waterfall. The narrrow trail of water makes for an incredible sight as it tumbles from the side of a steep cliff into the ocean below.

Day 2 - Streymoy Island

On day two, you'll journey from Vagar Island to Streymoy Island – a drive that takes around 45 minutes. This is the largest of the Faroe Islands and holds many treasures for landscape photography. During summer, there can be dense fog on this island, making for truly enchanting scenes. We'll drive through Mjørkadalur, otherwise known as the 'foggy valley', where a turf-roofed jail lays hidden amongst the lush green scenery. In the early afternoon, we'll explore the romantic village of Saksun, surrounded by majestic mountain peaks. From there, we'll make our way up further north to the remote village of Tjøruvík, stopping by the magnificent Fossá waterfall for a sunset session along the way.

Day 3 - Eysturoy Island

On day three, we'll rise early for breakfast before heading to the village of Gjógv. We'll take our time capturing the 200-metre sea-filled gorge that makes its way down from the valleys by the village to the ocean in an awe-inspiring scene, before taking a short hike to a mountain ridge at Hvíthamar. There, you'll have the chance to take a panorama of the entire area, capturing the splendid surrounds where the mountains meet the sea. As the day comes to an end, you’ll begin making your way back to Vágar Island, arriving in time to enjoy a night in the city – no doubt with a wonderful group of new friends, improved photography skills and memory cards full of photos to remember a fun-filled adventure in the Faroe Islands.
