Description
Experience the unparalleled beauty of Iceland’s underwater world on a three-hour diving tour at Silfra fissure. Thrill-seekers exploring the Golden Circle and those who want to explore the hidden depths of one of the top dive sites in the world should look no further than here.
Your adventure begins at the Thingvellir National Park, a key highlight of the Golden Circle and 30 miles (48 kilometers) from Reykjavik. At the park’s diving point near Thingvellir Parking P5, you’ll meet your experienced dive master and the rest of your diving group.
After brief introductions, your guide will provide a comprehensive briefing about the dive site. This will cover everything you need to know about the unique environment and what to expect during your dive.
Following the briefing, you’ll suit up with all the necessary diving equipment, including a drysuit, to keep you warm in Silfra’s cold, clear waters. During the trip, a seasoned dive master will ensure your safety and enjoyment, so feel free to ask them questions or assistance.
Silfra fissure is renowned as one of the top diving sites in the world, offering an extraordinary experience for those looking to explore the underwater wonders of Iceland. Formed by the separation of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, Silfra is the only place on Earth where you can dive between two continental plates.
In addition, the water in Silfra is exceptionally clear, with visibility often extending to the bottom. Its crystal clear waters, surrounded by unique rock formations, make it an ideal location for underwater exploration.
As you descend into the fissure, you’ll explore its four main sections: the Big Crack, Silfra Hall, Silfra Cathedral, and the Silfra Lagoon. Each section offers its own unique features and breathtaking views.
The exciting experience continues as you move through the different sections of Silfra.
While surrounded by clear waters, there will be opportunities to marvel over volcanic and unique rock walls. These rocks and certain areas of the fissure are also teeming with color through the different types of algae.
The entire tour takes about three hours, with the dive lasting 30 to 40 minutes. After your dive, warm up with hot chocolate and cookies provided by your guide. Underwater photos may also be available for purchase, depending on conditions, allowing you to take home a lasting memory of your dive.
Participants must be at least 17 years old and have a drysuit diving certification to join this tour. With a certification, you may present 10 logged drysuit dives within two years prior to the Silfra dive, signed or confirmed by an instructor.
