Description
Join this five-hour adventure in Iceland, combining snorkeling at the Silfra fissure and geothermal bathing at the Laugarvatn Fontana. This unique meet-on-location experience offers the perfect blend of thrill and relaxation, making it a must-do for anyone looking to experience Iceland's contrasting natural wonders.
Your journey begins at Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located about 30 miles (48 kilometers) from Reykjavik. At the snorkeling point near Thingvellir Parking P5, you'll meet your guide and the rest of your group.
After a brief introduction, your guide will equip you with a dry suit and snorkeling equipment. These underwater gear will keep you warm and safe in Silfra's chilly waters.
Snorkeling in Silfra is an experience unlike any other. The fissure between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates is renowned for its unparalleled water clarity, offering visibility up to the crack's bottom.
As you float through the four main sections of Silfra, from the Big Crack, Silfra Hall, Silfra Cathedral, up to the Silfra Lagoon, you'll be mesmerized by the vibrant colors and intricate rock formations beneath you.
In some parts of Silfra, you'll also see different species of algae floating and covering the rocks. This touch of vibrant color is beautiful to see up close.
Your snorkeling experience will take around 30 to 40 minutes. For this part of the tour, joiners must read and sign a Snorkeling Silfra Medical Statement.
After your dive, you'll warm up with hot cocoa and cookies provided by the guide. Then, you'll have a bit of time to explore the natural beauty of Thingvellir at your leisure before heading to the next part of your adventure.
Next, you'll drive approximately 11 miles (18 kilometers) to Laugarvatn Fontana, a geothermal spa nestled by the serene Lake Laugarvatn. Here, you'll have a soothing geothermal bath with the admission ticket included in your booking.
Upon arrival, you can immerse yourself in the warm thermal baths. The spa features various pools with varying temperatures. While here, you can take advantage of the steam rooms, a sauna, and a cold dip at the Laugarvatn lake if you prefer.
For an extra cost, you can add a culinary experience to your trip by trying the traditional Icelandic rugbraud. This dark rye bread is slow-baked using geothermal heat at the spa's Geothermal Bakery.
After a relaxing dip at Laugarvatn Fontana, your combination tour ends. Feel free to explore the rest of the Golden Circle sightseeing route independently.
