Day 1
Summer in Dolomites | 7 Day Photo Workshop - day 1

Day 1 - Arrival

You'll arrive to Venice (Marco Polo) airport, where you'll be picked up by your photo guide at around 12pm noon. Venice is a beautiful city, so you may choose to arrive a few days earlier, giving you time to enjoy its many attractions before the tour begins. If you do choose to arrive earlier, then our photo guide can pick you up at Bolzano train station instead. Once the group has gathered, we'll set off on our adventure into the heart of the Dolomites. Please ensure that you bring a packed lunch along with you, as there will not be much time to stop along the way. The drive to the Dolomites will take us a few hours, though the journey will be worth it. We'll arrive at our sunset location, Passo Rolle and Baita Segantini, a little ahead of time. This high mountain pass provides spectacular views of the Italian Alps, looming over the grassy fields. Your guide will go through the many compositions to be found in this beautiful, mountainous terrain, before you capture your very first images of the day. Once the sun has set, you'll continue to drive for another hour, until you arrive at your hotel near Lake Carezza. You'll check in to your hotel, whereupon there will be some time to freshen up before meeting again as a group in the evening for a well-deserved dinner. Over dinner, you'll have time to get to know one another a little better as your guide goes over the itinerary for the days ahead.

Day 2 - Carezza Lake, Val di Funes

On the morning of day two, you'll rise early for a sunrise session at the edge of Lago di Carezza (Karersee in German). Tinted a beautiful shade of emerald green, this small alpine lake is sometimes described as the 'rainbow lake', for the gorgeous colours that it takes on beneath the summer sunlight. We'll take our time capturing it surrounded by enchanting woodlands, before making our way back to the hotel for breakfast. After a hearty morning meal, we'll pack up our belongings and check out as we continue our journey to Ortisei in Val Gardena. The scenery here is incredible, with mountain peaks all around. We'll make this our base for the next few days, as we explore the many photographic opportunities to be found surrounding this little village. Our sunset shoot will be at the church of Santa Magdalena in Villnöß, with the jagged Odle mountain peaks in the background. This medieval church makes for a charming sight beneath the golden afternoon sunlight.

Day 5 - Cinque Torri, Tre Cime

On day five, we'll get up early in the morning to drive towards Rifugio Scoiattoli, a mountain hut situated on the ski slopes right by the small rock formation known as Cinque Torri. Translated to mean 'five towers', these spectacular wonders of nature make for extraordinary compositions in the morning light. It is one of the most scenic locations for photography in the Dolomites, so no doubt you'll end up with a plethora of beautiful images. After sunrise, we'll return to the hotel for breakfast. Thereafter, there will be some time to rest and go over our photos together, before we have lunch in the afternoon. After lunch will be one of the major highlights of our trip – a visit to the famous, awe-inspiring peaks of Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Drei Zinnen). These colossal pinnacles take a little effort to reach. We'll embark upon an easy hike of approximately 1.5 hours duration until we reach the perfect spot to capture the peaks at sunset. If conditions are favourable, then we'll stick around to photograph the Milky Way rising over the peaks at night.

Day 6 - Lago di Braies, Passo Giau

On day six, we'll have a morning sunrise session at Lago Di Braies (Pragser Wildsee), an alpine lake that shimmers bright blue beneath the sunlight. If it is calm, then we'll have the perfect opportunity to capture reflections of the mountains in the background. Even if there is wind, it will still make for a picturesque sight, with many beautiful boats moored in the spectacular waters. Thereafter, we'll return to the hotel for breakfast and settle in for some post-processing time. This will be a good chance for you to seek feedback on your images from your guide and your fellow travellers, as well as to work on developing your editing skills. In the afternoon, we'll head out for a sunset shoot at Passo Giau, a mountain pass that offers wonderful views of the many peaks in the area, lit up by the golden glow of the sun.
