Day 1
Misty Mountains of Norway Hiking & Camping Adventure - day 1

Day 1 - Days 1-7: A Norwegian Hiking and Camping Photo Adventure

On the first day of this adventure, you will arrive at Harstad (EVE) airport no later than 10:45am. Our guides will meet you at the airport. Once the group has gathered, you'll set off into the wilderness to begin the hike through the mountains of this remote region in Norway. Situated just north of the Lofoten Islands, this spectacular area is home to some of the most breathtaking scenery on Earth. The trek will be packed with amazing locations for photography, so our aim will be to cover as many sites as possible for the duration of the tour. To make the most of the prevailing weather conditions, there will be no fixed itinerary. Rather, your photography guides will monitor the weather and the light to ensure that you'll be best-placed to make the most of it and to capture truly stunning images throughout your time in the Arctic. Given that this will be the Midnight Sun season in Norway, the nights will never really get dark, so you'll have endless opportunities to explore the landscape. Throughout the tour, your guides will teach you to scout for landscape photography locations in-field, how to compose using foreground elements, as well as tips and tricks for shooting waterfalls, lakes and snow caves. You'll learn technical skills such as how to focus stack and effective use of a person or object for scale in the wide panoramic mountainous landscapes. At the end of the trip, you'll receive a video from our guides, which will take you through the post-processing required to complete your shots. You'll be able to peruse this in your own time and to refer to it in future if necessary.

Fitness & Weather

A moderate to high fitness level is required for this physically demanding workshop. While no actual climbing or technical routes are involved, we will be hiking long distances with a certain degree of ascent that may be difficult if you have never hiked up a mountain before.

Please contact us if you have any physical limitations that may affect your ability to participate in this workshop. This tour is not suitable for people with ongoing physical injuries.

The Norwegian summer weather during July is usually quite stable and is the perfect time for hiking in the mountains. In this region north of the Arctic Circle, the days are long with endless daylight as a consequence of the phenomenon known as the Midnight Sun. While we always hope for good conditions, the weather in the mountains is dynamic and can fluctuate at times. As such, we'll be prepared for all that nature can throw at us and will continue our hike in most circumstances. If conditions are particularly adverse, then we will head down into the lower part of the mountains.

Required Equipment

After you sign up, we will send you a detailed packing list. Please pay attention to what is required.

During the workshop, cooking kits and mountain tents will be provided for your use. The tents are from Hilleberg & Helsport. You are welcome to bring along your own tent if you prefer. Any other items, such as sleeping bag, sleeping mats and so forth must be provided by yourself.

Please be aware that you will be expected to carry all of your own gear, including your tent.

Basic Drytech freeze-dried food in portion packages will be provided. The food will be set up such that you will have enough food every day to ensure sufficient calories and energy for this hiking trip. There will be some extra surprise items that we may choose to include.

FAQ

WILL WE SEE AND PHOTOGRAPH THE NORTHERN LIGHTS?

No. July is the summer season in Norway, meaning that you will experience a phenomenon known as the Midnight Sun. This means endless hours of daylight, whereby the sun never really dips below the horizon. While it won't be dark enough for you to see the Northern Lights, you will have lots of natural daylight to work with for hiking and photography!

WHAT CAMERA SHOULD I BRING?

After you sign up, we will send you a detailed packing list. However, you will need to bring your own camera, a few lenses, tripod and a laptop at the very least. You are welcome to contact us for advice if you have any questions in relation to camera gear and equipment.

Disclaimer

We highly recommend that you get a travel and medical insurance. Your own domestic medical insurance and private health scheme will not cover you whilst you are overseas.

The tour is always dependent on weather, as the weather in the Alps can indeed be highly unpredictable. Likewise, summits of the peaks are dependent on favourable weather conditions.
