This 7-day small-group winter photography workshop is designed to maximise your time shooting in this wild and ruggedly beautiful part of the world. Situated well above the Arctic Circle, you'll be well-positioned to witness the most magical show on the planet, as the Aurora dances across the starry night sky.

Senja is the second largest island of Norway and is well-known for its dramatic, mountainous scenery as well as its spectacular coastlines. This is a place where pristine, white sandy beaches meet with the deep waters of fjords, casting an enchanting spell only fit for a winter wonderland. On the other hand, Abisko is a magical location in Sweden where vast expanses of snow and unpolluted night skies make for the perfect recipe to view the Northern Lights.

Throughout this adventure, you'll have two photography guides with you, taking you to all of the best locations to capture the gorgeous, icy landscapes. They'll share their wealth of knowledge with you to ensure that you'll be able to advance your photography skills and take home an abundance of incredible images.

Day 1
Arctic Borders | Norway & Sweden Photography Workshop - day 1

Day 1 - Arrival

On day one, you'll arrive to Harstad/Narvik Airport, Evenes (EVE), where you'll be met by your guides and the rest of your group. From there, you'll set off immediately on the journey north, towards the Lyngen Alps east of the city of Tromsø. Once there, you'll check in to your hotel, before heading back out to explore the stunning natural beauty of the mountain ranges in the Norwegian Arctic. Photographic opportunities abound, with stunning fjords and snowy landscapes all around. We'll spend our time making the most of the winter light, with long sunrises reaching into early sunsets. Don't be surprised when the sun dips below the horizon around 2pm. While it will be dark in the afternoon, we'll have all the more time to hunt for the elusive Northern Lights.

Day 2

Day 2 - Lyngen Alps

On day two, we'll continue our exploration of the Lyngen Alps, leaving no boulder unturned. The steep mountain peaks are a dream to photograph, swathed in a blanket of white snow. Panoramic vistas await us as we chase the Arctic light and alpenglow through snowy valleys. In the afternoon and evening, we will train our eyes once again to the sky, in search of the majestic Northern Lights. Capturing this atmospheric phenomenon takes tremendous skill. Luckily for us, we'll have ample time to perfect this art and science.

Day 3

Day 3 - 5: Senja

From days 3 to 5, we'll base ourselves on Senja island in the north of Norway. Dramatic landscapes await, with jagged mountain peaks, stunning fjords, Arctic beaches, sprawling coastlines and spectacular seascapes around every corner. Throughout the days, we'll make the most of the extraordinary winter light on this idyllic island. In the afternoons and evenings, we'll photograph the Northern Lights in the remote and scenic wilderness, framed against a backdrop of astonishing landscapes.

Day 6

Day 6 - Abisko

On day six, we'll make our journey into Abisko National Park in the wild and snowy landscapes of Sweden. During winter, this is one of the best places on Earth where you can view the Northern Lights. The scenery here is diverse and we'll spend our nights hunting for auroral activity near frozen waterfalls, mirror-like lakes and deep gorges in this stunning winter wonderland.

Day 7

Day 7 - Departure

This will be our final day of photography. After breakfast, we'll check out of our hotel and continue exploring Abisko for a plethora of incredible photographic opportunities, which we'll capture from a multitude of different angles with icy foregrounds. We'll then make the journey back to Harstad, where you'll be able to catch your flight home or onwards to your next destination.

FAQ

HOW DO I GET THERE?

You can fly to Harstad (EVE) airport via Oslo Gardermoen (OSL) airport in Norway.

WILL I SEE AND PHOTOGRAPH THE NORTHERN LIGHTS?

This time of year is a great time to witness the Northern Lights in Senja and Abisko. However, sightings are dependent upon clear skies and weather conditions. Our guides will monitor the aurora forecast and make sure that you'll be best placed to capture them should they appear.

WILL THERE BE SNOW OR ICE?

Yes, there will likely be snow and ice in both Senja and Abisko. It will be the winter season, so be prepared for it to be cold.

WHAT CAMERA SHOULD I BRING?

After you sign up, we will send you a detailed packing list. However, you will need to bring your own camera, a few lenses, tripod and a laptop at the very least. You are welcome to contact us for advice if you have any questions in relation to camera gear and equipment.

WHAT LEVEL OF PHOTOGRAPHY IS REQUIRED?

This photography workshop is open to people of all skill levels, from beginners through to seasoned professionals.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO DO OTHER ACTIVITIES OUTSIDE OF THE WORKSHOP?

Yes. Our itinerary is very flexible. You are not required to participate in any of the shoots, so feel free to skip anything that you don't want to do or to plan your own activities outside of the group. Please contact us if you need help with arranging your activities and transport. We can also give you advice if you'd like to extend your stay in Sweden or Norway.

Disclaimer

We highly recommend that you get a travel and medical insurance. Your own domestic medical insurance and private health scheme will not cover you whilst you are overseas.

The tour is always dependent on weather, as the weather can indeed be highly unpredictable. When it comes to the Northern Lights, while they are most likely to be seen between September and April, there is no guarantee that they will appear on a given day.
