Day 1
Terceira Island Photo Tour: A Captivating Journey Through the Azores - day 1

Day 1 - June 26 - Arrival in Terceira

Welcome to Terceira Island, home to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Angra do Heroísmo. After checking in at our hotel, take some time to relax. Later, we’ll pick you up for a delicious welcome lunch at a local restaurant. This is the perfect opportunity to ask any questions you may have and to get to know your fellow travelers a little better. After lunch, we’ll visit one of the island’s highlights, Algar do Carvão, the only volcano in the world that you can walk inside. While tripods are not allowed, be sure to bring your fastest and widest lens for this extraordinary experience. As we continue our journey, we’ll explore scenic forest roads, discovering some of the island’s best-hidden gems along the way. Weather permitting, we’ll finish the day with a sunset shoot at Serra de Santa Bárbara, the highest point on the island and a breathtaking spot to conclude our day.

Terceira Island Photo Tour: A Captivating Journey Through the Azores - day 2

Day 2 - June 27

Big views and seascapes—that’s the plan for the day. We start early with a drive to Serra da Ribeirinha. Perched on the southern rim of a volcano, we’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the coast, with Serra do Morião and Serra Santa Bárbara to the right, overlooking Monte Brasil and two other islands in the background, São Jorge and Pico. Next, we’ll head to one of the most picturesque volcanic cones in the Azores, Pico Dona Joana. With Ilhéu das Cabras in the background, this spot offers one of the most unique perspectives in the entire region. At noon, we’ll arrive at Praia da Vitória for lunch and take in the beautiful view of the beach. Terceira Island is renowned for having the best cuisine in the Azores, so we’ll be sure to make the most of it. In the afternoon, we’ll venture to the northern part of the island to Ponta do Mistério, one of its most stunning coastal areas. This mysterious, green-glazed lunar landscape, set against the blue Atlantic Ocean, creates an unforgettable sight. We’ll end the day with a sunset shoot in Biscoitos, a charming town known for its wine-growing region and its beautiful natural pools. The rugged, black lava fields sculpted by the waves offer fascinating and dramatic landscapes to photograph.

Day 3 - June 28

This morning, you’ll have the option to embark on a whale-watching tour (not included in the cost). If you’re up for an ocean adventure, the Azores are regarded as one of the best whale-watching destinations in the world, making this an experience not to be missed. After lunch, we’ll explore the UNESCO World Heritage city of Angra do Heroísmo. The vibrant patterns and colors of Portuguese architecture offer captivating photographic opportunities, and during this week, the festivities of Sanjoaninas add even more charm and excitement to the city. To end the day, we’ve saved the best for last. Considered one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in Portugal, Serra do Cume offers a stunning view of the island’s interior. Known as the “patchwork,” this landscape is defined by volcanic stone walls dividing farmer fields into square-shaped patterns. It’s the perfect spot to capture the last light of the day in all its glory.
