Culture & Landscape Photography Tour in China's Fujian Province

In the next 5 days, we will be photographing the beautiful Xiapu coastal landscape. Xiapa located in the Fujian province and it is the largest mudflat in China. Xiapu ranks the first on the list of "Top 10 Paradises for Photographers" in China for its unique coastal landscape. In the day 2, we will take a boat ride to visit Dongan Island for the early morning photography. Then we will visit Beidou fishing village where the most fishing nets are made. In the evening, we will be photographing the beautiful coast of Dongbi.

We will wake up early for sunrise shooting at Mantoushan, a.k.a. Bun Hill. Then we will proceed to visit Shajiang and photographing the local village life, as well as the famous S-Curve. In the evening, we will be photographing the flying fishing net and fisherman working near Yangjiaxi.

We will wake up early in the morning for sunrise at Beiqi, one of the most dramatic coastal landscape in Xiapu, with the well-known tiger skin stripes mudflat, fishermen, fishing boats, and thousands of bamboo poles. In the afternoon, we will go to Sansha for photographing the fish sauce making, follow by the sunset shooting at Xiaohao.

Despite a late night, we rise early today for the dreamlike sunrise on the salt flats. We visit a traditional, family owned, salt processing facility to get a better feel for the importance of the area and only a few kilometers from Colchani, we also explore the pyramids of salt piled up for processing. We then head out again for the dry part of the flats, the Isla Pescado or Isla Incahuasi which is about an hour’s drive away. These former islands are hilly and rocky with incredibly majestic and large cactuses, unusual coral-like fossil formations and llamas as well. We are privileged to have our lunch in the very surreal surroundings at the middle of this incredibly fascinating crystalline landscape. In the evening we get another shot at the Milky Way over the Salt Flats. Please note that Isla Incahuasi may not be accessible due to water increase on the flats so the itinerary may alter on the day. We may also visit the pyramids for sunset rather than in the morning.

We will be going to Xiaqingshan for sunrise on the bridge in the morning, then continue shooting colorful round nets and beautiful mudflat patterns at Nantang. In the afternoon, we will get on the boat and travel across to the Zhutan Island for shooting until sunset.

We will spend the day 7 in Huian for photographing different cultural activities at the fishing village Hui’an women at works. Hui’an women are well-known for their unique and colorful dress, as well as their hard-working life-style in the farm, salt fields, and fishing boat deck.

We will travel to birth place of incense making in China named as Dapu, in the Yongchun county. We will spend all days in photographing the making of incense.

In the morning, we will be photographing the making of incense at Dapu. We then check out from the hotel and proceed to Yongding Round House (Round House a.k.a. Tulou in Chinese) of Hakka clan. We will be exploring the unique Round House of Fujian province in the next 3 days. The Round Houses are unique to the Hakka clan in the mountainous areas in southeastern Fujian, they were mostly built between 12th to 20th centuries.

After shooting at Yongding Round House in the morning, we will travel to Nanjing Round House. Nanjing is the location of many famous Fujian Round Houses. Out of the 10 Round House sites listed on UNESCO's World Heritage list, four of them are in Nanjing.

In the morning, we will be doing the final round of photography at Nanjing Round Houses. We will transfer to Xiamen in the afternoon. We will have the evening time walking and enjoying the sight in Xiamen.

We will spend a free and easy morning in Xiamen after breakfast. We will then transfer to the Xiamen airport (XMN) for the flight home with tons of great pictures.
