Summary
Description
Explore the Golden Circle on a must-do day trip from Reykjavík! This small group tour includes admission to the Kerid volcanic crater, as well as the Blue Lagoon.
The Golden Circle route in Iceland is renowned for its stunning natural features. It combines unique and extraordinary scenery with amazing opportunities to experience the best of Icelandic nature, as well as to learn about the country’s culture and history.
Needless to say, the Golden Circle is one of the most popular destinations for sightseeing in Iceland. This tour takes place in a comfortable minibus, so passenger numbers are limited to ensure that you’ll have a more personal and enjoyable trip. Throughout the tour, your experienced local guide will recount Icelandic sagas and share with you their knowledge of the landmarks that you’ll be visiting.
Your journey will begin in Reykjavík. From there, you will be transported to the spectacular Þingvellir National Park, Iceland’s only UNESCO World Heritage Listed site. Once there, you will have the opportunity to delve into what makes Iceland so unique. This incredible location is brimming with fascinating geological formations, evidence of continental drift between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. The movements have created fissures that are visible above sea level, including Silfra, where crystal clear water makes for some of the best snorkelling in the world. It is also the location where Iceland’s first parliament convened, marking an important turning point in Icelandic history.
After exploring Þingvellir, you’ll head towards your second stop upon the Golden Circle, the amazing Geysir hot springs. Be prepared to step into another world as you enter a steaming landscape of fumaroles and bubbling mud pots. Here, you will find the fountain geyser of Strokkur, which erupts every 5-10 minutes and spouts hot water almost 20 metres into the air! Nearby is the Geysir bistro, where you’ll have the chance to purchase lunch or other food and snacks to bring along with you for the rest of the journey.
Your next stop will be the golden waterfall, known as Gullfoss. There are numerous vantage points here, offering the opportunity to view the waterfall from above or to get close to the powerful rush of water as it breaks into two tiers and plunges 30 metres down a crevasse into the Hvítá river below.
You’ll have plenty of time to take in the scenery before moving on to your next destination, the 3,000 year old Kerid volcano crater. With red soil lining the caldera and a beautiful blue pool within, it makes for a truly stunning sight. An easy hike will take you to the rim of the crater, where you’ll be able to enjoy the breathtaking view from above.
After a long day of exploring, there is no better way to relax than with a relaxing dip at the Blue Lagoon before the return back to Reykjavík. Your comfort admission ticket will give you access to the mineral-rich waters, as well as a silica mud mask, use of a towel and a free drink of your choice for a luxurious end to a wonderful trip!
With so much included in a full day itinerary, this small group tour is the perfect way to explore the Golden Circle and to relax at the Blue Lagoon. Do not miss out on the adventure of a lifetime! Check availability by choosing a date.
