Explore the South Coast of Iceland in depth on this 3-day photography tour. You'll have the chance to photograph some of Iceland's most beautiful sights, including glittering waterfalls, mighty glaciers and stretches of black sand beaches, while the midnight sun shines above.

Conducted by award-winning, professional photoguides, this tour promises to improve your photography skills and build your portfolio whether you are an experienced or a novice shutterbug.

The South Coast is one of Iceland’s most popular regions, and for great reason. The entire stretch of road is lined with spectacular features such as the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, the glacier Mýrdalsjökull, and Reynisfjara black sand beach. With three days of constant shooting, you will be able to take home images of them all.

Your accommodation in the village of Vík will be organised before you arrive, and you need not worry about driving; your guides will take full control. All you have to do is to capture the best pictures possible and make the most of this marvellous opportunity. With the midnight sun overhead, you will have plenty of time to do both.

Photograph Iceland’s spectacular South Coast and return home with a portfolio of memories by booking this tour now. Check availability by choosing a date.

Day 1 - Leaving Reykjavik

Day 1 - Leaving Reykjavik

Leaving Reykjavik

On your first day, you will be picked up in Reykjavík and start your journey along the scenic South Coast. Your first subjects for the day will be the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Seljalandsfoss is very picturesque, falling in a thin cascade from over sixty metres. In the summer, you can enter a cave behind the falling springwater to fully encircle the waterfall. It is the perfect spot for photographers seeking a unique perspective. Skógafoss is as tall as Seljalandsfoss but is much wider and more powerful. Photographers seeking to play with the effects of light will enjoy the rainbows that spring from the cloud of mist as this waterfall comes crashing to the earth. Many birds nest around the feature, meaning wildlife photographers can incorporate them in their pictures as well. However, wildlife photographers will surely find the next destination a dream come true. Dyrhólaey rock arch is very impressive in itself, but in summer, it becomes packed with puffins. These adorable little creatures are not afraid of people, meaning you can get close to them for some stunning shots. Your final destination today is the black sand beach Reynisfjara, one of the most iconic destinations in Iceland. From the shore, you can shoot the haunting sea stacks of Reynisdrangar, which, according to folklore, are all that remain of two trolls that were frozen by the sun. You will retire for the evening in the nearby village of Vík.

Day 2 - South Coast In Depth

South Coast In Depth

You will start day two by returning to Reynisfjara to shoot it in different lighting conditions. Your photo guide will be on hand to ensure you will be able to make the most of the light changes. After capturing the beach in all its majesty, you will head on to your next destination, the little-visited hiking region of Þakgil. Þakgil is a stunning canyon that blends dramatic geology and verdant flora. Hidden waterfalls and crystal clear streams define the region as much as its surroundings. It is located right between the mighty Mýrdalsjökull glacier, which covers the notorious Katla volcano, and the seemingly endless black sand desert, Mýrdalssandur. Your professional guide will show you the many beautiful features you can take unique images of, including a little cave. There is enough to see at Þakgil for you to stay all day, hiking the incredible landscape and capturing the many sites as the Midnight Sun circles overhead. When you have a full memory card, you will return to Vík where you can spend some more time photographing the picturesque settlement and adjacent beach during the sunset.

Day 3 - Dyrholaey & Glaciers

Dyrholaey & Glaciers

On day three, you will return to Reykjavík but not before visiting a few more sites. You will start the day by returning to Dyrhólaey to capture the puffins and seascapes here once more. On your way back, you can photograph the glaciers Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull, as well as the glacier tongue of Sólheimajökull. There, the contrasts between the white snow, blue ice and black ash from past volcanic eruptions make for some incredible compositions. If the weather conditions are different than on your first day on the road, you will stop again at the waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss to capture them under a new light.  Once back in Reykjavík, you will no doubt be in awe by your new skills and can set off, camera in hand, to utilise them in building your portfolio further.
