A photography tour in Slovenia offers a chance to capture a place that’s truly unspoilt, from the peaks of the Julian Alps to cultural sights in perfect harmony with their natural surroundings. Although this is a country with a growing reputation, it hasn’t yet received the attention from travellers that it definitely deserves. Their loss is our gain! Slovenia’s natural beauty has never really been in doubt, and this photo tour aims to make the most of it. We will be gazing up at the imperious peaks of the Julian Alps, visiting charming lakeside towns and strolling through alpine scenes that look they are straight out out of a musical. More than anything this is a photography destination for lovers of nature. Slovenia is a place where the natural world is cherished, and the people here strive to live as part of the stunning landscapes all around. What more could you want from a photography tour?

So it goes without saying that to make the most of this tour you will need a decent level of fitness, along with footwear and clothing suitable for outdoor adventure.

Either way, our professional guides will be on hand to help you make the most of your surroundings. We strongly recommend that you bring a tripod and polarizing filter - these will both be essential to the techniques we’ll incorporate as we capture Slovenia’s finest scenes.
It’s also a good idea to pack a cable release, a macro lens along with plenty of spare batteries.
Our daily schedule is flexible, but more often than not it will look like this:
Sunrise/morning session on location
Return home for a breakfast and much-needed rest
Day session on location either, which will include either a packed lunch or a stop somewhere to eat, with free time to do things on your own
Dusk/sunset session on location
Dinner and time to relax with the group
Image review/critique sessions will be included in a flexible manner as time allows. This could be during instances of bad weather.
On the first day of our Slovenia photography tour, the group will meet in the capital city of Ljubljana. We don’t want to waste any time, so we will immediately head north towards one of the country’s most iconic sights, Lake Bled. The emerald lake is arguably Slovenia’s most popular tourist spot, and after a few minutes walking around you’ll quickly understand why. The water shines with dazzling green and blue tones, a charming church rests on a tiny island in the centre, and the imposing peaks of the Julian Alps and the Karavanke offer the perfect backdrop for photography shoots.
We’re sure that it will be a magnificent start to our six-day adventure. In the evening we will gather together for food, spend some time getting to know each other and discuss the trip to come..
Over the next 4 days during this photography tour, we will be exploring the Gorenjska region, including the area close to Lake Bled and the nearby Julian Alps. There will be sunrise shoots on the shores of lake Bled, a trip up to the castle that overlooks the water, and plenty of time spent shooting the spectacular church in the middle of the lake.
We will also spend time at one of Slovenia’s hidden gems, the Vintgar Gorge. This 1.6km trench cuts through the Hom and Bort hills, and there are is a variety of waterfalls, rivers, and rapids to capture with our cameras. We will certainly make time for some long exposure shots.
But there’s another majestic lake in this part of Slovenia. Just an hour’s drive south-west and we will reach Lake Bohinj, the laid-back alternative to Bled that’s set in the heart of the Julian Alps. Here we can work on our reflective photography, as the water is clear and calm enough to act as a mirror for the vistas all around.
We will also spend some time exploring the local culture through our lenses. There are plenty of charming villages close to the lake, where we will capture traditional agricultural architecture and the famous hayracks of Slovenia. Rural village life offers a wonderful contrast to the epic natural scenes that will dominate our sunset shoots.
On our final day we will head back to the airport in Ljubljana. There we will say our goodbyes and take a few moments to appreciate all that we have seen together. Our cameras and legs will be tired, and our memory cards will most definitely be full. Until the next time!
