Iceland is without doubt a photographer’s paradise, mostly because of the great variety in landscape refined with exceptional light. In Iceland you will encounter breathtaking vistas, unspoiled countryside, an endless array of waterfalls, impressive coastlines and dramatic weather. Autumn is a great time to visit Iceland because this time of year Icelandic nature transforms, becoming amazingly beautiful with vibrant and colorful landscape with awe-inspiring scenery all over the island. In September, days start to get shorter with less hours of sunlight—the midnight sun is no longer visible but the Northern Lights begin making their appearance.

Today we will continue our journey on Snæfellsnes because there are still breathtaking wonders yet to explore and photograph . The spots we couldn’t cover from the day before will be shot and we will be surfing the north part of the peninsula as well. The highlight of the northern part will be the mountain Kirkjufell with its dramatic formations and unique shape. Mt. Kirkjufell is considered to be one of the most beautiful mountains in the country and is without a doubt wonderfully picturesque with Kirkjufellsfoss Waterfall in the front and Grundarfjordur Bay in the back. Day 4 - Hraunfossar – Golden circle

You will not be disappointed departing today because we will head over to the icy blue waterfall of Hraunfossar or Lava Falls where you will experience clear springs seeping through the lava as countless little waterfalls, viewing the Langjokull Glacier in the back. From there we will explore the famous Golden Circle route which consists of Thingvellir National Park with its giant fissures and rifts, the mighty Gullfoss Waterfall and the spouting hot spring at Geysir. Day 5 - Vik

Today we will land on the south coast which is known for its fascinating black sand beaches, dramatic columnar basalt rocks as for example the Reynisdrangar stacks, the spectacular Dyrholaey cape and iconic, elegant waterfalls. Day 6 - Vatnajokull National park

We take off heading further east to the beautiful area of Vatnajokull National Park which is filled with all kinds of natural wonders. The pearl of Skaftafell area is arguably the Svartifoss Waterfall or Black Fall which is surrounded by massive basalt walls. Here you will experience glacial scenes of all kinds in the form of glaciers and icy lagoons Accommodation: Glacier Lagoon

Day 7 - Vatnajokull National park

Vatnajokull National Park is one of Iceland’s most photographed areas because of its exceptional light and many locations for shooting. It is unique in its range of contrasting natural wonders where white glaciers slide onto black sand. We will focus on the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon where we will be among impressive icebergs fallen from Europe’s largest ice cap and we’ll be photographing a black sand beach covered with crystal clear ice chunks that were washed ashore. It composes a beautiful scene, especially when illuminated during sunset and sunrise. Not only will we chase the rising and setting sun but we will also hunt the Aurora Borealis. Accommodation: Glacier Lagoon.

Day 8 - Vatnajokull National park

We will be staying in Vatnajokull National Park today as well. The world famous Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is located there. We will be among impressive icebergs broken off Europe’s largest ice cap and we’ll be photographing the black sand beach covered with crystal clear ice chunks washed ashore; such a stunning scene especially in the gentle light of the rising or setting sun. Further east at Stokksnes Beach you can feel the power of the Atlantic Ocean as the waves hit the rocky shore with massive force. The grand peaks of Mt. Vestrahorn never disappoint and make a great scene in the southeast corner. Accommodation: Glacier Lagoon

Day 9 - Vik

Today we will be heading back to Vik, driving the south coast. On our way we will explore waterfalls falling from magnificent cliffs, mountain peaks and glacial outlets, big mossy lava fields, wild horses and more sights we couldn’t photograph earlier. Disclaimer

The tour is always dependent on weather, as the Arctic weather can indeed be highly unpredictable. When it comes to the Northern Lights, while they are most likely to be seen between September and April, there is no guarantee that they will appear at a given time. There is however always plenty to see and do if conditions do not favour any part of our original plan.
